Hannibal Book top 100 rides

Ride: Cycle the World Book names Hannibal in Top 100 Rides!

In the Footsteps of Hannibal

BARCELONA, SPAIN TO ROME, ITALY

The book Ride: Cycle the World picked 100 of the best rides on the planet, and our Hannibal bike tour from Barcelona to Rome is one of them. The write-up, by author and cycling commentator Felix Lowe, follows Hannibal’s march of 218 BC across three countries and three mountain ranges – from the Catalonian countryside and the Pyrenees, over the Alps and on to the hilltop towns of Italy – and recommends it to anyone with a taste for food, wine, history and the road less travelled.

It also puts on record where the route came from: “The Hannibal Ride is the brainchild of Sam Wood”, an Australian archaeologist who devised it after making the BBC documentary On Hannibal’s Trail. The full story of how that documentary became the first historical bike tour is here.

Read more below from this excellent write up! You can buy the book here:

  1. Thanks Doug! Interesting we didn’t know who wrote it for some time then we worked out Felix Lowe was the contributor!
