Longer, linear routes: Our full odyssey itineraries usually take us across large regions or even continents – e.g., cycling from Venice to Paris, Istanbul to Ithaca, or Santiago to Volcano Osorno – often lasting several weeks with continuous movement from start to finish.

Hotel changes most nights: Standard tours change accommodation frequently as the route progresses, reflecting a point‑to‑point journey with 2 night stays every 3-5 nights usually in combination with a rest day. Accommodation is of a high level but when travelling across continents there can be some variation in level of hotels. Generally we average 4* across the whole Odyssey.

One broad route narrative: They follow historical or thematic storylines (Hannibal, Lionheart, Odysseus…) across the entire length of the ride.

Curated “best of” experience: Instead of covering every kilometre of the classic odyssey route, a Highlights tour cherry‑picks the most iconic segments and places. A recent example is Highlights of Hannibal, which distils the original long tour into a shorter, focused experience.

Fewer bases, deeper stays: Highlights itineraries stay multiple nights (often three) at each key location rather than moving every day. This allows riders to unpack once and explore the surrounding area in depth. In all cases, the best hotels are chosen for these stays so accommodation is of a high (4*+) standard almost always (occasional boutique / hotel of interest as well).

Multiple ride options each day: Rather than a fixed daily a to b itinerary, riders ride loops from the location often with longer and shorter options.

Shorter total duration: A Highlights tour is usually significantly shorter overall than the full odyssey, making it more accessible for riders who want an epic experience without committing to the longest, most demanding versions. For example the Othello Odyssey is 34 days, whereas Highlights of Othello is 18 days.
