The Odyssey 2024
From the majestic heights of the Byzantine dome of the Aya Sofya in Istanbul, where history whispers in every corner, across the dazzling Mediterranean—its waters speckled with glittering islands—to the fabled shores of Ithaca, the homeland of Odysseus. Here, the essence of The Odyssey is brought to life, not merely in its mythical decade-long voyage but in the very spirit of adventure that defines the word.
Our grand journey begins in Istanbul, the heart of empires and crossroads of continents. From this iconic city, we chart a course through the Bosphorus, heading south toward the ancient ruins of Troy—the hallowed starting point of Odysseus’ epic quest. Turkey, a land as rich in natural beauty as it is in history, unfolds before us. The legendary Cycling Tour of Turkey, beloved by UCI World riders, draws competitors and adventurers alike to witness its breathtaking landscapes. We traverse the solemn grounds of Gallipoli, the timeless grandeur of Ephesus, and discover castles and temples lost to the mists of time. Our Turkish odyssey culminates on the stunning Bodrum Peninsula, where rugged cliffs and sweeping beaches embrace jade waters, beneath skies that echo with the ancient past. Here, the land and sea conspire to create vistas so magnificent, they are nothing short of otherworldly.
With the end of our Turkish sojourn, we embark upon the next leg of our adventure aboard elegant gulets—luxurious vessels that will carry us across the shimmering Mediterranean. The Dodecanese Islands await: Leros, Kalymnos, Kos, Symi, and Nisiros. As we cycle along ancient trails, every turn rewards us with the blue infinity of the sea, a feast for the eyes that matches the sumptuous meals served on deck between refreshing swims in crystal-clear waters.
Stage 2 of our odyssey begins in Athens, where modern life pulses alongside the echoes of antiquity. After exploring this city, the cradle of democracy, we journey inland. Yet soon enough, the allure of the sea draws us once more, this time to the irresistible Ionian Islands—renowned for their rich history, vibrant cycling culture, and unparalleled beauty. From Athens, we ride westward, crossing the Corinthian Canal onto the storied Peloponnese. Here, the grandeur of ancient Greece surrounds us: the magnificent amphitheatre of Epidaurus, the palace of Mycenae, home to Agamemnon, and the vine-draped hills of Nemea, where every twist of the road reveals another stunning view.
Crossing from Argos to Corinth, our journey briefly pauses beneath the towering presence of Delphi, only to press onward. Venetian harbours beckon us with their charm, and five-star sanctuaries await our weary legs as we push further west. At last, we reach the Ionian Islands. Our first conquest is Kefalonia, an island whose towering Mount Einos rivals the legendary Mont Ventoux for cyclists. Each climb and descent reveals a new facet of its unspoiled beauty.
But our true destination lies beyond—Ithaca's hallowed isle, where Odysseus once roamed. After circling its timeless shores, we end our modern-day Odyssey in the very place where the great hero’s journey concluded, celebrating the miles we’ve conquered and the living history we’ve been privileged to witness. Here, with hearts full of adventure and minds rich with the stories of old, we complete our voyage through time, myth, and the wonders of the Mediterranean.

Shogun v2 Cover 2025
The Shōgun tour by Bike Odyssey is a long-distance cycling journey through Japan — starting in Fukuoka (in Kyushu) and ending at Mount Fuji — that traces historic “kaidō” routes once traveled under shōgun rule.
Along the way you cycle through volcanic landscapes, tea-field hinterlands, ancient pilgrimage roads, island-hopping routes like Shimanami Kaidō, traditional towns, onsen hot-springs, UNESCO villages, and the Japanese Alps — combining immersive cultural history, spiritual sites, and Japan’s rural & coastal beauty.
Accommodation is typically traditional (ryokan, temples, onsen hotels) offering a deeply authentic Japanese experience alongside the cycling. On average the tour involves about 75 km/day with roughly 1,450 m of climbing daily — considered moderately challenging but manageable for regular cyclists. It’s praised for its careful organisation, cultural immersion, varied scenery and smooth logistics — making it as much a cultural expedition as a cycling adventure.

2026 Highlights of Othello
The Othello tour by Bike Odyssey is a richly immersive cycling journey that traces a cultural arc from North Africa into southern Europe, beginning in the vibrant souks of Marrakesh, crossing the dramatic Atlas Mountains to the edge of the Sahara Desert, and continuing through the Moorish heartlands of Andalusia before finishing among the vineyards, castles and rolling countryside of Alentejo and the Atlantic port city of Porto. Blending challenging yet flexible riding with deep historical context, distinctive regional cuisine and carefully selected character accommodation—from desert camps and riads to historic European hotels—the tour is designed as an “epic adventure” that showcases the geographic diversity and enduring cultural links between Morocco, Spain and Portugal, offering riders a journey from the exotic to the exceptional across landscapes shaped by centuries of Moorish, Roman and medieval history.
Che - Santiago to Volcano Osorno
Leaving Santiago, the ride begins by tracing south through the lush vineyards of the Maipo, Colchagua, and Maule valleys. Days are spent cycling past rows of Cabernet Sauvignon and Carménère grapes, pausing in haciendas for tastings and long lunches under the vines. The terrain rolls gently, with the snow-capped Andes always a distant backdrop, before swinging westward to reach the Pacific coast, where fishing villages, rugged headlands, and seabird-filled skies bring a briny contrast to the inland vineyards.
From the coast the road bends southward, and the scenery shifts steadily greener and wilder. Entering the Araucanía region, the ride climbs into the volcanic cordillera via Lonquimay, with its wide valleys, monkey-puzzle forests (Araucaria), and lunar lava fields. This is the start of Chile’s volcanic heartland, where cones dominate the horizon. Descending, the route heads to Pucón, a lively lakeside town under the smoking presence of Volcán Villarrica, a reminder of both beauty and raw power.
Further south, the journey winds through the dense rainforest of Huilo Huilo, where waterfalls thunder and temperate jungle presses in on the road. Riding alongside crystal-clear rivers and deep lakes, cyclists cross into the pristine wilderness of Futangue and nearby reserves, where condors ride the thermals overhead. Each day feels like entering deeper into Patagonia proper—roads become quieter, landscapes larger, and the distances between villages longer.
The path continues toward the Chiloé Islands, reached by ferry across the Chacao Channel. Here, the pace slows among rolling hills, wooden fishing boats, and UNESCO-listed wooden churches. The cycling follows winding coastal lanes, past pastures dotted with sheep and bright houses on stilts. The culture feels distinct—part indigenous, part seafaring—with curantos (seafood feasts) and myth-laden stories adding to the sense of arriving somewhere different and apart.
Finally, returning to the mainland, the journey culminates at Lago Llanquihue. Its shimmering waters reflect the perfect snowy cone of Volcán Osorno. The final challenge is the dramatic ascent up its slopes—a winding road that grows steeper as the air thins, every turn revealing vaster views across the lake, the Andes, and the Patagonian wilderness. Reaching the high flanks of Osorno after four weeks of riding through Chile’s vineyards, coasts, forests, and volcanic landscapes feels like a fitting summit to one of South America’s great journeys.
