The Origins: In a rural area outside Peebles, Scotland, riding a bike wae nae gears, brakes or lightweight tech of the modern world was always an adventure, bringing independence to go places, explore. Riding 8 miles tae yer grannies for yer tea, in yer wellies, on a bmx, nae gears, brakes, lights or helmet. Way to go!
The Career/Path: I have worked in the outdoors in various roles for aboot 30+ years, ranging from Outward Bound, youth development work, coaching, international expedition leadership, criminal justice programs, environmental and further education, guiding in the mountains and on the sea and more recently by bike and 12 seasons in NZ as kayak and bike guide in the Marlborough Sounds.

The Passion: The outdoors is a powerful and magical place.  Working as a Guide is a privilege, to be in the outdoors sharing fantastic environments with a wide range of folk, different itineraries, weather, activities, never the same day twice! And the bonus is it’s always a pleasure to return to the same spots and see more new folk experience and become animated for the first time...

The Present: you might find me in Ambleside in the Lake District, and when I'm not working, you'll likely find me on a bike, running up a hill or heading oot for a wee paddle, ideally somewhere on the west coast or Highlands of Scotland. I have been involved in a few wee expedition adventure races, they are a whole lot of fun, sometimes surprisingly like a week of guiding, except probably more sleep and less whisky!
