Life is Good in Lido: Lionheart Warmup

Yesterday was a great day, mostly because my insubordinate luggage, Mr. Pink, was finally delivered to my room about 2pm, and I could change clothes and brush my teeth!  But it was also a another relaxing day with an early morning walk on the massive Spaggia beach, some Italian beer and pizza with 4/5ths of Team Canuck and one token Aussie filling in for our delayed remaining team member.( see our version of the iconic Beatles pose)

Another great dinner at a small outdoor cafe close to the hotel; a pre-dinner spritz, a Venetian classic made of Prosecco, Aperol and club soda… very refreshing summertime drink! And for dinner I had a grilled sea bass with a side of tagliatelle in garlic and hot pepper oil.

This morning we unpacked and set up bikes, received our official double blue Bike Odyssey Lionheart kits, had a short team logistics/safety meeting with superguide and native Venetian Enrico, and the the ‘shakedown’ ride to assure the bikes are in good working order so we can get after that Lionheart fella!

Lido is a separate long narrow island  in the city of Venice, accessible only by vaporetto, however there are motor vehicles on the island. A really nice road with bike lanes, a stop for a light lunch and then back to the hotel.  All bikes good, or maybe a slight seat adjustment, thanks to our certified mechanic and co-guide Dario.

 espresso, a cyclist’s secret weapon!

A little rest to get packed for an early start in the morning, a  Team Canuck strategy meeting,

introduction of chilled dry rose to teammates( secret weapon #3)

pre-dinner drinks/full group meeting…

and the off to dinner at one of Enrico favourite restaurants, and it was delicious on a lovely evening outdoors…

a seafood antipasto, crab ravioli with risotto, baked sea bream covered with sliced potato, lemon sorbet and a few bottles of white.

Tomorrow we take a short ride to the ferry, over to the mainland and  Lionheart 2022 begins in earnest… so tighten your boa’s and stay tuned!…Dickie, we’re comin’ to git ya!
