Holy Giau Batman!

Watch my Relive video here!: https://www.relive.cc/view/vDqgMW2JNVO

We rode out of the Padron hotel a little earlier than normal as Chris, James and I chose to ride the optional Passo Giau. This added an extra 10km and over 1,500ft of climbing. So the day was 120km, 6,100 ft of climbing…that made it 20,000 ft in the last 3 days! The Giau is 10km with average grade of 10.5%!!
What a great way to leave the Dolomites and Italy!

very happy to see the summit sign!

The descent was amazing; smooth road with sweeping turns, could really get the speed up!

The 3 of us met up with the rest of the group just outside Cortina. Cortina  is a beautiful spot, has hosted the Winter Olympics and will do so again.

Lunch was in Dombiacco,  in a park by the historic train station. From there, we rode the last 45km on a new paved bike lane through open fields and forests. What a nice change from competing with a lot of motorcycles in the Dolomites. And better yet it was all downhill and we had a decent tailwind!!…averaged 42km/hr!

So arriveidierci Italy and Welkommen Austria!!

at the border, no Customs etc, just a simple sign!

We are in Lienz Austria for a full rest day tomorrow….after the last few days, I need it.

Our first bit of rain came about 5pm, hopefully it will cool things off…a few shots of Lienz

Tour update: Team Canuck and the Cycletooth Army is now only a few seconds behind Richard and Team Plantagenet. It really helped having the paved bike lane that Dickie didn’t have in his day. A cold Steigl for my teammates was the order of the day

  1. Braver than me, I skipped Giau. I think it’s rained both times we’ve been to Lienz but it’s a great place.
