Taking a Load Off in Lindau!

Aah another much needed rest day! Sleep in, don’t have to pack up, can have a leisurely breakfast, an extra cappuccino and do a little wander around this beautiful island town.

The iconic landmark here is the entrance to the harbour with a lion statue on one side and the old lighthouse on the other. The red banners draped over is to depict blood lost in the Ukraine crisis.

After breakfast I had therapy  with our revelling physiotherapist/guide Marjolein. My leg where it attaches to the sacrum is still pretty sore when I walk or climb stairs but fortunately does not affect the cycling….another good reason to ride a bike?

Lindau is considered the prettiest city on Lake Constance. Looking out from the hotel terrace the far side of the lake is Austria and further down is Switzerland because the lake borders all 3 countries and a bit of Lichtenstein.

A wide waterfront promenade, narrow cobblestoned roads and colourful houses and buildings, and of course a multitude of flowers. Our hotel, the Bayerischer Hof

       The train station or Bahnhof

I walked around the Old Town:

The Diebsturm or ‘Thieves Tower’ built in 1380 is a prominent structure, was originally built for defense but we came a prison. It now sits empty after an investor bought in 1817 to preserve it from being torn down.

The Mangturm Tower below, on the waterfront, stands out with its colourful tiles. It was a lookout in the old days.

Below is The Church of St Peter is 1,018 yr old as of 2022!

St. Stephen’s cathedral built in 1748 below

The Maximillian Strasse is the Main Street of the old town and filled with shops and cafes along this widened cobblestoned road and very pretty too.

                how’s that for an e-bike?!

In winter, the harbour used to freeze over as shown in these old photographs that adorned my hotel room

But the main attraction is the waterfront with its many cafes, boats and views of Lake Constance.
