The weather report for today was not good, rain most of the day, and last night quite a big thunderstorm around 3am. But this morning started out OK but packed in case we got some later.

Today’s route was 88km and 4,108ft climbing. The elevation map below tells the whole story!

After a wonderful 20% descent into the Intal Valley below Reiff,

another beast of a climb up to the town of Achensee with the Garmin reading 19% grade in places….the average grade for the climb was 9%.

So the last 3 days have taken their toll on my legs!

Fortunately after that climb to the cafe for coffee, the ride was pleasant with lots of rollers and quite a bit of paved bike paths. This area is called the See region.

Team Canuck enjoying their daily morning cappuccino!

Just after coffee, at km 38, we exited Austria and entered Germany, no fanfare, no signs because we were on a bike path.

Then the rain started, making things difficult to see and the roads were slick…guide Luis changed my rear tire as it had flattened out quite a bit and worn through in spots. The new tire made a world of difference. The rain stopped with about 35 km to go and the sun started to peak out.

Garmisch-Partenkirchen is a Bavarian town with Germany’s highest peak, Zugspitze looming over the town.hopefully will see the peak in the morning

the boys looking for some grub,

Pumpkin encrusted schnitzel

Interestingly, the 2 towns amalgamated in 1936, so ordered by Hitler, so that there were enough hotel rooms to satisfy the International Olympic Committee to award the Winter Olympics.

Garmisch is one of Germany’s premier ski towns, a large ski jump welcomes you upon entering the town.

Big rains again tonight, will see what tomorrow brings.

Life is good in Garmisch!
