Today was another remote and spectacular riding day. Starting with a rewarding exit back down from Kefalari, we again rode alongside this mountain range, then headed up through a stunning green and lush gully.
Suddenly it felt as if you have skipped countries to the highlands of Scotland! However, once through the valley, we climbed and traversed around the hills with the most spectacular long views out to the right all the way to the Gulf of Corinth where we were headed.
Minute villages, yellow and purple wildflowers crowding the road from both sides, and the vineyards dotted throughout in an incredibly rich red soil, made for an extremely pretty day. Coffeeing in a tiny village with snow-topped mountains in our view, then continued on these glorious roads, passing nothing but tractors, until we again felt like we skipped countries with a run of pencil pine-lined road like the hills of Tuscany!
A switchback with olive trees!…
A monastery bell perching out over the cliffs, was where we picnicked at the monastery in its shade and enjoyed the magic views all the way down to the water.
After lunch, we rode a beautiful switchback and a lovely 30km run all the way down to the Ancient Aigeira in the Gulf of Corinth.
Then, like the Hyperisi over 3000 years ago, we boarded boats – us to swim and to cross to Galaxidi for our rest day – The Hyperisi, on the other hand, sailed to Troy as part of the Mycenean armada!
After a spectacular 6000 plus ride day, we enjoyed the water taxi boat ride across to the stunning town of Galaxidi, where we will spend the next 2 nights.
After a tough climbing day in hot weather and water taxi, a nice ice cold glass of rose was called for!
And then off on a short walk to our hotel, the Ganimede
It is the perfect entrance to see the setting of this town with Delphi perched high above, and Mt Parnassis towering above that! All that is to come…for tomorrow is a rest day, our last one!.
We checked into the Ganimede Hotel. This is a tradtional Greek family Mansion hosted by the owner, the lovely Chrisoula. She is the ultimate host and her hotel has won multiple awards.
Dinner at a taverna steps from the hotel, tapas style shared with others.
Our bikes are serviced and they rested…
Life is good in Galaxidi…
