odyssey, noun…a long trip or period involving a lot of different and exciting activities
Following the Big O
No, this blog is not about Oscar Robertson or Roy Orbison, both were ‘Big O’s’ on their own merit. Rather, it is about the 10 year, post-Trojan war, wild adventure of the classic Greek king Odysseus, and his travels home to his kingdom of Ithaca.
But this is also going to be Bike Odyssey’s inaugural bike tour and so it is ‘The’ Odyssey! I will ride my bike and sail the seas from Istanbul Turkey to Ithaca Greece, and finish on the island of Kefalonia Greece, 1,683 km (1046 miles) over 27 days.
Bike and Mr. pink are packed, flights booked Detroit MI to Frankfurt Germany to Istanbul Turkey. My Wise card is loaded with Turkish lira and euros, and my e-visa to enter Turkey at the ready!
If you haven’t had a chance to read, or hadn’t studied it in school, pick up a copy of Homer’s Odyssey, the translation by Emily Wilson is probably the best one.
This ride will be both factual and mythical, on the road and by sea, with Odysseus, the fabled King of Ithaca. But most of all it will be a lot of fun! So come along and Ride with King!…and me.
