A bright crisp morning awaited us, looking out on the golf course from my balcony I could see quite a few wallabies getting in an early round of golf before those pesky humans showed up….or maybe they are the ground crew?
Today we rode from Bass Strait on the north coast, to St Helens at Georges Bay on the east coast. It was hugely varied terrain and a great day on the bike.

The day began with a nice undulating warm-up along the north coast for 35km before turning inland for some dirt adventure! For 15km we headed south into the forest towards the somewhat intimidating Mount Horror Reserve! It was a beautiful ride on pristine dirt and the atmosphere riding through the quiet forest was exceptional.
We popped out onto tiny back roads in the hills above Derby and being remote this morning we were supported with multiple roadside snacks.

After a relaxing pub lunch at the Weldborough hotel, a haven for cyclists, we ascended to the Weldborough Pass (where there was a must stop 5 minute excursion in a beautiful section of remnant Myrtle rainforest). An excellent descent had us at Pyengana dairy farm and cheese factory for afternoon ice cream, looking across the lush farmland.

There was about 27km of easy riding left, with just a short climb out of Pyengana and then largely flat riding before the descent into St Helens.
