With Andrew as head tour guide, we set out to see the sights of Canberra and surrounding hills. Canberra has excellent system of paved bike paths to easily move around the city, and with it being a holiday there was even lighter traffic.

First stop was a spicy climb up Red Hill giving a nice look down on the city…

Descending back down we cycled around the Parliamentary Triangle to see the old Parliament, the new Parliament, the War Memorial and along the Anzac Parade to see different country’s memorials.

The High Court (Supreme Court)

The War Memorial, The Anzac Parade and Nation Memorials…

Above the Boer War Memorial
Then a stop for coffee and chocolate chip coffee and visit to the Carillion, donated to Australia by Great Britain, we were there in time to hear the noon time bells.

The National Library and Lake Burley Griffin…

Then back out of the city for our second climb to Dairy Farmers Hill and the Arboretum, built after a major fire in those hills, a reforestation project was started

Our 3rd climb of the day was up Mt Stromlo to the multiple observatories and my first kangaroo siting!

From there we rode to Stromlo Forest Park which has the city’s official criterium track and an abundance of mountain bike trails…..Bent Spoke brewery also has a kiosk there.

Tonight was the last day of Canberra Day celebrations with their world renowned light and audio choreographed on the government buildings, named Enlighten…..and what a show of colour and ingenuity!! Each year has a new and unique presentation.

All the displays were in video motion, each one a different theme.

Life is good in Canberra!
