Technically a rest day but we did get a short hike in. Today was a special way to see Cape Pillar, we did it by guided boat.

We rode the Auswalks bus to Port Arthur then boarding flat bottomed multi seat boat with 4 big Mercury outboard engines. Everyone was outfitted with a floor length poncho to keep us dry out in the ocean.

We proceeded to retrace the hikes of the last 2 days BUT by boat…really cool to see the cliffs above where we hiked from the sea below looking up!

A close up look at the ‘candlestick’ and the ‘totem pole’ rock formations. The sedimentary and granite rock formations date back 3 million years.

Turnaround point was Tasman island with its lighthouse perched above 250 ft cliff faces, the highest in Australia. At this point only Antarctica was the only land mass to the south of us!

The ‘Candlestick’ rock above and the ‘totem pole’ below, both of which we saw from the cliffs above the last 2 days( remember the rock climber? He was on the totem pole).

We sailed as far south as Tasman Island with its giant lighthouse. Here we saw numerous albatross and gannets

Just a short walk from Stewart’s Bay Lodge from where the boat tour dropped us off, we had lunch and then proceeded to the Pt Arthur Correctional Prison tour.

The prison was only a short 5 km hike from the Stewart’s Bay Lodge.
