UnderDownUnder Day 18: Rest is Overrated!

Another Rest day? That’s a hard no! We had 2 options activities to choose from so a few of us did both. The first was a hike up Mt Brown (which was a short route option on one of the Auswalks hiking tour when we did the long route)….then a “spicy” ride with three 17% grades.

A bright red sunrise greeted us followed by the Holland America Zandam anchoring in the bay outside my cabin.

Remarkable Cave and Crescent Bay
For those of us who wanted to stretch their legs in a different format today, there was hike to the top of Mt Brown going from Remarkable Cove to Crescent Bay. This lovely 6km return wander – recently upgraded – traversed classic coastal heath which you won’t experience anywhere else in Tasmania. The heath was bursting with flowers and there were lots of little birds and often cockatoos feeding in places along the way. The beach is gorgeous, secluded and the perfect spot for a skinny dip but I was not so inclined!

.On the Road – Distance 38km / 24mi Elevation 779m / 2556ft
A scenic 38 kilometre rollercoastering excursion is the optional unsupported ride today and there are a few out and back options for the super keen. Take note, we circle clockwise (which means we start with the most serious climb straight up) so we can drop into the Lavender Farm for a coffee on the way home. If you’d prefer a more relaxed loop, head anti-clockwise!
