On the Road – Distance 88km / 55mi & Elevation 801m / 2628ft

RAIN!…a steady rain greeted us to begin the day, and because we had to catch a shutttle boat at 9am only we could not delay our start. The rain let up about 2 hr into the ride but came off and off for a couple more hours.

After our short boat ride we headed down the tiny sand blown track which is Dolphin Sands. It would have been a great little ride bringing us back onto the main artery south in the seaside town of Swansea, but we did stop at Kate´s Raspberry Farm for coffee and scones.

Another 16km of beautiful, fairly flat coastal riding followed, with wonderful views across to Maria Island, another vineyard or two and a photo opportunity at the historic Spiky Bridge, built by convicts in 1843.

Lunch was on a short detour through a farm to again, a spot with stunning views across the coast at Boomer Winery´s Cellar Door.

The last 40km of today’s route headed slightly inland with an average gradient of 1%, travelling through pastoral land and passing a couple of lagoons.

With a fairly short day we could enjoy the scenery and take our time before rolling into our hotel on the water opposite Maria Island.
