With a little advice from Richie Porte, who rides this regularly, we adjusted this ride out from Launceston!

After climbing out of the Tamar Valley, the forest morphs into farming country and then became wine growing territory.
Our first stop was for a coffee in the little village of Lilydale.

Shortly after we pulled in at the stunning location of Clover Hill Wines, sited at the top of a climb overlooking a natural amphitheatre carpeted in grapevines. Here we took an early lunch and enjoyed this excellent spot.

In the 50 kilometres of riding after Clover Hill we’ve got a net loss of about 250 metres, with the road undulating then a gradual descent for the last 30 kilometres or so brought us to the north coast.
Stopped for an afternoon coffee or icecream at Bridgeport, overlooking the Bass Strait

The day finished at Lost Farm, Barnbougle, with the last 5kms a fantastic snaking road through the world’s no. 3 golf course! An idyllic location nestled in the sand dunes right on the shores of Bass Strait for the night.

A swim in the Bass Strait (Tasman Sea) was quite refreshing before dinner!

The restaurant was at an adjoining golf course, our driver was golf pro Carston who hails from Toronto, here on a golf management program, at 6’6” he dwarfs fellow rider Janice!
