To The Capes!
An early rise to meet up with Auswalks hiking tour company shuttle for the start of our 4 day hiking tour, named The 3 Capes.

The tour company’s bus driven by guide Dave and assisted by Rose took us about 1 1/2 hours from Hobart to the Tasman Peninsula. About halfway there we stopped at a cafe for a coffee and treats, and packed our lunch bags with various lunch items.
Day 1 was a challenging hike to the tip of Cape Huay on the Cape Huay Track in the Tasman National Park. It offered we were told some of the most stunning coastal scenery anywhere in Australia. This hike was an out and back on a very well-constructed track. The climbs were up and down with long steep ascents and accompanying descents, a lot of rough rock steps and some gravel paths. Temperature was in the low 20’s with a nice breeze, ideal for hiking.

Distance out and back 11 km (7mi) and 588 metres (1,929ft)elevation. Picnic lunch with chicken salad sandwiches and fruit….also had a couple of brief photo rest stops along the track…we saw many hikers passing us who were finishing a week long ‘ hut to hut’ trek. We all managed to finish before the wind s picked up and rain started.
We are staying at the Stewart Bay Resort, a series of 2 bedroom cabins with living room and kitchen, although we are dining in the restaurant onsite. This will serve us for the next 3 days.
Fresh grilled calamari, roasted squash, broccoli, fish, and lamb for dinner

. Lots of great conversation and got to know some of the fellow trekkers, will talk with more tomorrow…the group consists 9 women and 4 men.
The 5 of us all sported our Rowdy Roos t-shirts at dinner.
Tomorrow is Day 2, longer and steeper on the east coast of Tassie.
Life is good at Tasman National Park and Stewarts Bay
