On the Road: 50 km/ 31 miles I Elevation 164 metres/ 594 feet
Today was a short day on the bike but a long day overall. The sun rose around 3:45 am and the day starts as my biological clock is messed up! Breakfast, luggage to the van, a change of clothes in the day bag and ride started at 8:30am
Today we left the fantastic sand dunes of Skagen and headed back down to Hirtshals to take our ferry to Larvik and embark on our Norwegian Odyssey to Alesund. We weaved on and off the bike paths, making the most of the quieter roads and keeping to the impressive forests where possible. It was a lovely and fast ride taking us to our international port, ready to head into phase 2 of stage 1 of Vikings! Because we were leaving Denmark and entering the Independent State of Norway, we had to present our passports
We arrived at the ferry terminal in plenty of time to allow us to change out of our kits into comfortable clothes for the almost 4 hr ferry ride to Tonsberg. The bikes were trailered and delivered to the hotel.
The boat was like a small cruise ship with comfortable seating, 2 dining facilities and a casino. Upon disembarking, a shuttle bus drove us 30 minutes to our hotel on the shore of Tonsberg.
As we approached the shoreline we could see an increase of elevation. The real fun challenge begins in a couple of days. Tomorrow is our first full rest day
Checked in, team briefing for tomorrow and plans to visit a Viking shipbuilder, and of course dinner at a nice restaurant around the corner for Arctic Char and chocolate with caramel sauce
Life is Good in Tonsberg!….(at 11pm below!)
