On the Road: 100km/ 63miles I Elevation 809metres/ 2,654 ft PLUS 12km/7 miles I Elevation 403 metres/ 1,322 ft for a total of 69 miles and 3,991 ft

11:30pm last night left, 4:30am this morning right…

We started the morning after a hearty breakfast, catching the speed boat back to Geiyo, mounting our bikes to ride back the way we came for 5km along the Atlantic Road. Today we spent a bit of time following the famous EuroVelo 1 Atlantic Coast Route.

EuroVelo 1 – Atlantic Coast Route starts at North Cape, the endpoint of Europe and runs through the Arctic landscapes of northern Norway’s West Coast along the coast to Bergen but why would we do that when we could have so much more fun climbing the mountains and fjords of more central Norway! 

Gentle undulations today – another change of scenery from what we have experienced before as we were exposed to the Norwegian Sea, rather than the more gentle fjords. Again we duckied on and off bike paths, with lovely remote riding for much of the day.

Set between the attractions Romsdalseggen, Trollstigen and Atlanterhavsvegen is the fjord city of Molde, a pleasant small city with charm and atmosphere. Here we found a unique combination of cultural offerings, spectacular nature, sports and culinary pleasures. However, possibly most importantly there was an optional extra out and back….

222 Mountain Peak

From the viewpoint Varden, we enjoyed the vista of the 222 mountain peaks in the Molde panorama. At the top is the restaurant Vardestua, where we could stop for refreshments while resting our eyes on the mountain tops before rolling home. It was a 14 km out and back from the pier in Molde.

Note the last 2.5km were compacted gravel.
