Wednesday, July 1, our last rest day
Today, I will digress a bit from recounting historical information to talking about food. The food supplied by our guides at rest stops has been good and plentiful.
Meals at restaurants has also been good, even if they have been heavy on vegetables and cheese. At our last hotel stay in Belgium, the staff there were serious about their food. Check out these huge slabs of butter at our breakfast:
And last night’s dessert. (Yes, I ate both of them).
On our rest day, today, July 1, a local historian from Clervaux took us on a guided tour around his community which was occupied by the Germans during WWII and one of the many battle sites in the Battle of the Bulge. The people here are very appreciative of the Americans who liberated their city as evidenced by this statue of an American GI:
The war reduced many of the buildings of the community and killed countless civilians but today, it is a beautiful place.
