On the Road: 106km\/66miles. I Elevation 1,837 metres\/ 6,027 feet<\/strong>

What a day\u2026again!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We left Lom and headed to Geiranger, via Grotli. We started out on a slightly busier road which runs between two national parks – Brehemien and Reinheimen – overall today was, to be honest, a gentle uphill day, if you leave out our sharpish out and back up to Dalsnibba which added around 4.5 km of climbing at 10%!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The morning’s ride was spent on and off backroads, with sections on the bigger road north. Unfortunately there is no way around, but traffic was generally good as we continued up the gentle valley with beautiful mountain scenery with a stunning frozen lake called Bredialsvatn on our left – this area is famous for its trout fishing.

To be honest, the scenery today was just so so if compared to what we have seen the last 10 days in Norway. However, when we made a right turn to climb to Dalsnibba, that all changed immediately to jaw dropping beauty!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At @82km we climbed to Dalsnibba. This was challenging but the views were spectacular.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is a private road (bikes don’t pay only vehicles) and there is the potential for snow to fall as we reached 1500m which is very high when we are already this far north!

Part way up to the summit looking back on the switchbacks snaking it\u2019s way from the start of the climb\u2026

At the summit we were treated with unbelievable views and lunch of hearty beef stew, mashed potatoes and bread

After admiring the amazing views down to the Geiranger Fjord we enjoyed an albeit white knuckled, 20km all downhill to our classy hotel. The grade varied from 11% to 8% as tour buses, Rv\u2019s, cars, motorcycles climbed back up from whence we rode.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Geiranger is a popular stop for cruise ships,. Our hotel is the building in the centre of the village in the above photo. Dinner was an elaborate buffet in the expansive dining room. There is a historical link to old cars and this village and hotel dating back to the 1920\u2019s. A collection Model T\u2019s and old Buicks are in the basement of the hotel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nature has thrown a monkey wrench into tomorrow\u2019s ride plans, multiple landslides in the past 2 weeks on Hwy 63 which becomes the famous Trollstigen climb, the road is now closed until the end of the year. Sam, Henrick and Charlie have worked out an alternate route to bypass this area and get us to our planned destination. It will be another long day of climbing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
