On the Road: 80km\/ 58 miles. I Elevation 4,541 ft\/ 1,384 metres<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is quite difficult to ride out of Bergen due to traffic so we shuttled 20 km to a ferry for another 15 minutes, so by 9:45 am we were ready to ride<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A light rain accompanied us for the first 15 kilometres, but the temperature was the mildest we\u2019ve had since leaving Copenhagen, 12C to start, finishing at 17C.

Once off the ferry, we had a big ride still ahead of us. 80km of rolling elevation and a daily high of only 136m! We meandered almost the whole day along the water, with beautiful views, interesting white-slatted houses, snow sometimes all year round, and tunnels numbering close to double digits!

With a lovely lookout with rock art for our lunch spot, we kept pedaling alongside the Hardanferfjord – an incredible 180km long fjord – 2nd longest in Norway – 5th in the whole world!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The history of the fjord goes far beyond its Viking<\/a>\u00a0history, back to the time of hunters on the surrounding mountains, and later on, farming along this fertile area which today is considered the “fruit orchard of Norway”. With a flatter ending to our day, we arrived at Oystese where we stayed right on the banks of this gorgeous body of water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this land of 50,000 islands, where mountains spring straight from the sea and mossy greens sit starkly against grey, craggy, snow-capped peaks, cycling is the best way to get about. Seeing all Norway has to offer from the saddle is, quite simply, an unique experience. \u00a0

Some of us got in the van and drove before dinner to see an amazing waterfall that we could climb up to and<\/p>\n\n\n\n

walk underneath it. The next Vikings tour will have today\u2019s route altered to include a stop at this site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
